Production Blog: Editing

Image
Today, I was planning to film some more scenes. Since I am now back in Florida, I have to film at a different location than before. It will still be in the woods. However, it may look different than the other scenes. I am hoping it will not look very noticeable. I was planning to got to the Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, because they have deep woods. It will be a little hot in our costumes. Since I was first filming in cold weather, I was wearing a long sleeve and jeans. My sister's costume is a lack hoodie and a mask. The weather is getting warmer in Florida, so it may getting hot. Of course, it is too late to change costumes. Although I was planning to film, unfortunately, I am unable. My mom's car does not work very well, so I have to wait until it gets fixed. But, I can still finish editing the scenes that I do have filmed. I will be trimming the clips and see which ones will be good for the film. I can also find better sound effects and background music. I am using Royalty...

Production Blog: Weather

For the past couple days, I have been filming some more scenes. After school, me and my sister go to the woods. We pack all of our props and materials for filming. I still haven't finished most of the scenes in the woods, just because there is a lot. It gets dark here early, too. I leave New York in a couple of days, so I don't think I will finish all of the wood scenes. Today, I have an early release day. But, it is supposed to rain all day here. Tomorrow, I have no school, either, but it is supposed to be too cold. However. I think I found a solution. Since it will be spring break next week, I will have more time to film. I can go to the state park in Florida and shoot some of the scenes there. I am hoping the scenes won't look too different. But because of the bad weather here, I am unable to shoot the rest of my film here. I also got my prop from the store. I went to the Dollar Tree and I found a plastic toy sword. It may not be that scary looking or frightening. But i...

Production Blog: Filming

Today, it was my second day of filming. It took place in the woods and my sister was there. We shot a couple scenes of me walking through the woods. Originally, I was going to do an over-the-shoulder shot of the killer stalking the main character. But since it was only me and my sister there, we didn't have anyone to hold the camera. My mom was at work during this time. So I decided to improvise and just do a POV shot instead. I figured that this might be better anyways. The movie could include the killer's perspective while killing. It was easier to film today, too, because the ground was not as muddy. The rain had dried up, so it didn't make a weird noise while walking. It was kind of cold today, however. So I only filmed a couple scenes since it was getting unbearable. My sister was also sick, so I figured it was not a good idea to be in the cold for too long. Hopefully, it will get warmer throughout the week. I am also finally getting a weapon today. I couldn't fin...

Production Blog: the Setting

Image
Today, I went out with my sister to find the exact place of filming. There are woods near our house a couple blocks away. We went out to find the exact spot in the woods. We walked for about 10 minutes before we found the forest. It was down a hill and we decided to go down. The ground was very muddy and there was also a lot of animal poop arounds us. After trying to not slip on the mud, we decided to go back. We walked back up and tried to look for a different spot. My sister found a pathway or dirt road leading deeper in the woods. I decided that we should see what was there. We walked for a couple minutes and saw a couple of private houses on the way. I realized this was a sort of private road for the owners. Me and my sister walked further and found something. There was a sign posted on two trees that said Do Not Enter. I looked farther behind it and saw a driveway. It led up to a really big house. Obviously, we didn't keep going. But the woods to the right of it, seemed like ...

Production Blog: First Day of Filming

Image
I have started my first day of filming. I only filmed a couples scenes, however. I only had little time, because my mom was leaving for her flight early. I still need to go over all the scenes. I need to check if they are good enough to include in the film. As we were rushing a bit, they might need improvement. If anything, I could always switch the location to a different house. The setting of the scenes is just a kitchen and dining room. It can be in any house, not necessarily mine. However, it stills feels good to have gotten some work done. At least now I know how I want the scenes to look. This also allows me time to get the props I need. I still have to get a fake weapon for the killer. I initially thought that the costume already came with one. But later, I found out that it doesn't. So I might order one online or improvise. For now, I will just do the scenes that do not involve the weapon. I plan to film again over the weekend maybe. It is my sister's birthday that wee...

Filming and Editing Blog: Preparations

Image
Today, I did not film or edit. Today and tomorrow, I am planning on getting all my props ready and going over everything. I want to make sure that everything is ready, so I don't have to spend much time redoing some scenes. I still have to figure out what will be the weapon for the film task. My mom is also leaving soon. Lately, she has been busy getting ready for her flight. But we are planning on filming on Friday. We could at least get some scenes then. And then on Saturday, we will film some more. Sunday is the last day my mom will be home. This day will be just in case we need to redo a scene. I am also preparing my computer for future editing. I will be using iMovie on my mom's computer. But, her computer has been acting weird. We are planning on getting fixed soon. If it does not work in time of my editing days, I will use my phone. It also has iMovie, but it is not as advanced as the one on the computer. They aren't as many adjustments and controls on the phone. B...

Planning Blog: Storyboard

This is the storyboard for the final task. I wanted to be sure that I could fit all of the scenes I wanted in 60 panels. So, before I finalized it, I sketched out a rough draft of a storyboard. I wanted to see how much panels I could think of. If there were not enough, I would add a few more details, like facial expressions or actions. If I felt that something was unnecessary, I would change it to something more relevant to the film. It took a couple of tries to fit everything I wanted. Finally, I had all 60 panels for my storyboard. I believe that it is an accurate demonstration of my idea. Of course, I am not a very good artist. But for me, I can understand what each panel represents. It shows me what kind of setting or mood I want to establish in that scene. The facial expressions, actions, sounds, etc. are all what tell me what I need to demonstrate in that scene. The storyboard acts as a guideline for what I need to direct. It tells me exactly in picture what I want to conve...

Planning Blog: Scripts

I did two different scripts for the final task. One is a shooting script and the other is a sound/ dialogue script. The shooting script describes the actions, lighting, shots, and camera movements for each scene. For the sound/dialogue script, it basically just has the dialogue and other sounds in each scene. I had to carefully plan out my storyboard before doing each script. I believe that these scripts will help me a lot while filming and editing. It acts as a sort of organizer that shows what is in each scene. It could help me remember that I need to add a sound effect in one of the scenes while I am editing. It also reminds me what shots and movements I need to include. It provides as a guideline on how I should film and edit my final task. There are specific types of camera angles, shots, movements, etc. that I need to include in my final task. For example, I have to include an establishing shot, a pan, a high angle, just to name a few. While writing out the shooting script,...
