Filming Blog: Bruises and Scrapes

I started filming my commercial on Sunday, the 1st of November. I was planning on filming it on the Thursday before with my friend, Bella, as on of the actors. However, there were some last minute changes, because Bella had an unexpected emergency, and she did not have any other time to do it. So, I decided to improvise and have me be the only actor in my commercial. I did most of the acting myself, but I did need help with the filming. I initially thought that I could do the filming myself too, but I realized that it was very difficult. I asked my younger sister for assistance in holding the camera for scenes. Before filming, I got ready by putting on baggy jeans, a basic white t-shirt, and a black and white flannel. In addition, I brought my skateboard and also wore my Vans sneakers, of course. My sister used parked cars in the garage to lean my phone on while filming in some scenes. The filming went pretty well and I had very few complications with it. We used various objects, not just cars, to lean my camera against. For example, in one of the scenes where it was a high angle, there was a hanging mirror in one of the levels of the garage that was a great place to lean my phone against. One complication that did come along with the commercial was the scene where I was supposed to do a skating trick. I had practiced some easy tricks days beforehand of the filming day. I would spend hours a day practicing, and at some points, I would somewhat land the trick. However, on the day of filming, I could not land any of the tricks. Every time, I would either fall, or come really close to falling. This was the scene where I needed my sister to hold the camera. Every single attempt of the trick and I fell, she would laugh and we would joke about it, so it was still fun. Although, I did get several scrapes and bruises from that scene. Overall, the filming process of the commercial was a fun and enjoyable experience.
