Genre Decision Blog

For the opening sequence, I chose to do horror. I have done a lot of research into this genre and I feel very comfortable with doing it. I have a lot of information of the conventions and elements of horror. I know what type of lighting, angles, props, settings, costumes, etc. are popular among horror films. I also believe that I have a good idea for the final task. I had other choices of genres to do the opening sequence with. It was between horror, science fiction, and maybe mystery. When I was brainstorming, though, I realized I had a much more established idea for horror. I usually watch a lot of horror movies. Although, I usually watch them near Halloween. I also believe that I have a really good pitch for the opening sequence. Most of the props are easily accessible and some I can get from my house. I am going to use my sister's old Halloween costume for the killer. Since I already have some of the necessary materials, it would be easier for me to do. For research, I am going to re-watch some horror films. It would help with getting a better vision for the final task. It would also help me get an idea for what setting or props would be good for the killer. I could get some more inspirations from these films. The settings and props in a horror movie are significant, because it is what the audience typically associates with to the killer of the movie. For example, Michael Myers and the hockey mask or Pennywise with the red balloon.
