Genre Research Blog: Horror

This project is about the horror genre. I did this project in the beginning of the year. I researched about all the elements and conventions of horror. Conventions such as the use of CAMS, CLAMPS, music, etc. and how they affect the film were all part of the slideshow. Some of the elements were self-explanatory and pretty obvious in horror. For example, the lighting in horror films are usually dark and low. Anyone who has seen a horror movie knows that the low lighting is necessary in horror to create a creepy and foreboding mood. Other conventions, however, were harder to find in horror. The props and setting in horror were difficult to explain. There are many different settings that horror films take place, and the killers in the movie have their own "signature" weapon. The different props and settings is what differentiates each well-known horror movie killer. For instance, Michael Myers has the hockey mask, Chucky is a doll, and Pennywise has the red balloon. This is what people associate to each killer in a horror movie. My favorite part of the project was including the background music. I have never been good at doing audio and editing. However, this project taught me how to do it and it helped me with my other media projects. I had to download an mp3 convertor app for the audio, and I still use it for my filming projects. I believed that the music helped create the tone of the project. It showed how the music sets the mood of a scene of a horror movie. The audio helped to the same thing for my project by having it play in the background very low.
