Genre Research: The Boy
- What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?
- In this movie, there is a little bit of mystery to it. There is a nanny who babysits a "boy," when it's really just a doll. But the doll eventually starts terrorizing the nanny. She has to figure out how to escape and find clues on how to make it out of the house alive. For my final task, I would have the killer trap the victims or victim in a house. They would have to try to find a way to escape the house. The killer in my movie would haunt the house and attempt to kill everyone in the house.
- What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like?
- I liked how unexpected everything was. The doll would trap the nanny in the attic or mess up her room. She would be very wary of the doll and scared that the doll would kill her. Throughout the whole movie, the audience would be on edge. The character nor the audience would know what the doll would do next. It added to the suspense and horror to the movie. For my final task, I would attempt to try to have the same effect on the audience. I would have my killer do unexpected things at the most random moments.
- What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?
- I did not like how the nanny accepted that the doll was a real boy. Typically, in horror movies, the main character would try to get away from the killer. In this film, the nanny kept taking care of the doll. I believe that it would be scarier if the main character was trying to escape the whole time. But the killer keeps haunting them and not letting them escape by blocking everything. In my final task, I plan to have the victim try to run away from the killer.
