Genre Research: IT
- What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?
- The movie is mostly genre, but there are a lot of other subgenres to it. For example, there it could also be mystery. In this movie, the kids are trying to figure out a way to survive the clown and try to find a way to get rid of him. In my final task, I plan to have the main characters try to find out who is the person stalking them and how to trick the killer. It would ort of be mystery, because they try to look for clues on who the killer is. The antagonist in IT is a supernatural clown, because he can make his victims see things that aren't really there. I will base my killer off of IT, because I believe that most people are scared of killer clowns than actual serial killers. However, my killer will not be supernatural.
- What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like?
- In this movie, I liked how there was something that let the kids know that Pennywise was near. Whenever there was a red balloon floating around, it meant that the clown was near. It also meant that the kids were about to see things that they feared most. That was how the clown got his victims, by impersonating what they feared most. In the movie poster above, you can see the little boy and a red balloon getting handed to him. There is part of a clown handing him the balloon, the rest of him hidden in the shadows. In my final task, I want to establish a prop or something like that to associate with my killer.
- What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?
- I did not like how the movie did not really explain the killer's background. The movie just explained that Pennywise always haunted and killed the children of the town that they lived in. They also found out that he came back every 26 years. But the movie doesn't go into a lot of detail on the killer's background, like why he kills, how he became that way, etc. I feel like having a insight on who the antagonist is makes the movie better.
