AICE Media Studies VANS Commercial
This commercial project is my first major filming project, and I feel very satisfied with the production. Of course, there is always room for improvement. I had originally planned for there to be one more actor in the commercial, but it did not go to plan. I wanted to convey the message that Vans makes skating more fun, especially with friends. When I was doing research of Vans commercials, there were a couple where there were a group of friends skating and doing tricks. I felt like that showing a friendship in the commercial would make it more appealing. Nonetheless, I believe that the message that Vans makes a very enjoyable skating experience was still conveyed in the commercial. Another improvement I could have made in my project, was the logo. I could not figure out how to implement the actual logo of Vans in the video. Instead, I inserted regular text that said "VANS Off the Wall." I also felt like I could have improved with the filming. I directed exactly which able to use, where the camera was stationed, and where to move the camera at. However, I think that some of the angles and shots did not fit well with the scene. I have learned a lot about media production through this project. I learned how to edit better, with different apps, filters, how to split and trim clips, how to work with audios, and much more. I realize that editing is a very important aspect of media, because it helps make the creation much more visually appealing to the audience. I now understand the importance of different angles, shots and camera movements in filming. During filming, I felt like if I used a different angles and shots, it would seem very disorganized. However, looking through the commercial, I realize that it made it much more interesting and eye-catching for the audience. I know that with practice and more knowledge, I can make the transitions and camera movements smoother.
