Music Video CCR Blog
1. How does your product challenge or use conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
- My product uses the conventions of a typical scene from a musical. Musical song numbers usually tell a story with the scene and sometimes they use the song to talk to other characters. In my music video, I was telling a story about how I dream to be rich. My sister stars in my video as someone I talk to about my dreams. The social issue represented in my video is: can money buy happiness? Throughout the music video, the main character is saying that money will cure all her problems and she'll be much happier with it.
2. How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
- My product engages with audiences, because of my use of filters and how I tell the message of the song. I use different filters in scenes to help the audience distinguish between reality and the dream. I used an old, yellowy, vintage filter for reality to show that it's not fun or lively. The scenes that show the fantasy are bright and glittery to show fanciness and happiness. It would be distributed as a real media text as a sort of a message about money and happiness through a song.
3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
- My production skills have evidently improved through this project. I learned more about the precision of lining up the lyrics to a song with a scene. It was my first time doing a music video with lip-syncing, so it proved to be a little challenging. In the end, I had some trouble with certain parts of the song and the shots I took. However, I feel like this challenge has given me more experience with editing. My transitions have also improved. I used different transitions for the video to show which is reality and which is the fantasy.
4. How did you integrate technologies- software, hardware, online- in this project?
- Most of the editing and filming for this project was done on my phone. I didn't have access to my Mac book, which has a more complex and precise iMovie app. However, I found a solution and used my phone for the editing as well. My phone has a really good camera quality and is easily portable. I used the school computer to upload the video to Youtube and save it to my folder.
