Music Video CCR Blog

1. How does your product challenge or use conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?  - My product uses the conventions of a typical scene from a musical. Musical song numbers usually tell a story with the scene and sometimes they use the song to talk to other characters. In my music video, I was telling a story about how I dream to be rich. My sister stars in my video as someone I talk to about my dreams. The social issue represented in my video is: can money buy happiness? Throughout the music video, the main character is saying that money will cure all her problems and she'll be much happier with it.  2. How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text? - My product engages with audiences, because of my use of filters and how I tell the message of the song. I use different filters in scenes to help the audience distinguish between reality and the dream. I used an old, yellowy, vintage filter for reality to ...

AICE Music Video Money, Money, Money

This is my second major filming project. I am very proud with it, because I felt like I learned a lot. This project took me less time to film and edit. I already know what needs to be done with the video to make the process easier. For example, I know which app can convert audio into mp3 on my phone. I also know a really good filter app for my scenes. I have only used iMovie so far, but it seems to be really easy to use and really reliable. It is a lot more complex on the computer, however my phone has all the same functions. Trimming the clips have also become a lot easier. I realized I could do it from iMovie directly. Which means that I don't have to trim them all in my camera roll. There was one complication that I came across while editing, though. Lining up the lyrics to my lip-sync proved to be a challenge. It took me about an hour for me to finally fit everything together. I had to edit out some parts that I really enjoyed though. Halfway through filming, I came up with a l...

Editing Blog: Getting the Time Right

Image
I spent a lot of time editing for this project. First, I had to convert the song into an mp3 file. I wanted the video to start a couple seconds later than the actual song, because the first few seconds are silent. I had a lot of trouble lining up the clip with the second it started. I did not have my computer with me, so I had to edit the video on iMovie on my phone. The program is the same on both, but it's a little harder to trim at an exact time on the phone. I then chose which clip to insert for each scene. For some of them, I had to put them into an editing app called Prequel to add filters and special effects. These scenes were the ones in the "fantasy." I trimmed each to the right time and put them all in iMovie. For the rest of the scenes, I added filters that were included in iMovie. I went over it a couple times to make sure that the lip-sync was right. In a couple of the scenes, they were either too fast or too slow. I had a lot of trouble in editing for this ...

Filming Blog: Getting the Lip-Sync Right

Image
Today, I did my second day of filming. After my first day, I went back to go over the shots I had taken. When I tried to edit them together, I realized that they could be better. Another thing I had noticed was that the lip-sync wasn't right. Some lyrics were said ahead or before the actual lyrics to the song. While planning my schedule, I had left enough time for days to reshoot scenes in cases like this. There were only a couple scenes that weren't right. So, my sister and I redid the scenes in the club room. We got our costumes and props and headed up there. We both put on our costumes, which were long fancy dresses. We both had sunglasses and purses with us as added accessories. To make sure the lyrics were right this time, my sister played the sing on her phone while recording. She was the one who recorded the scenes, because it gave a better angle rather than leaning it against something. She did multiple shoots of each scene, just in case. It took a couple tries, becaus...
